Friendship

The Friendship System in Dragon Nest allows you to become friends with various NPCs.
The Friendship System in Dragon Nest is like reputation with individuals rather than whole factions. By giving appropriate gifts to specific individuals you gain Friendship with that NPC, their friends and their faction. But, doing wrong things or befriending someone they do not like will increase your Aversion with that NPC.

Both Friendship (blue bar) and Aversion (red bar) are on a 100 point scale. If Aversion reaches 100 it reduces your Friendship by some amount but the Aversion then resets to zero.
Before you can get the option to give gifts to an NPC you must first complete a Friendship Quest for that person, but first you will need to get the Friendship Quest and that often requires some action that unlocks the quest. In your Friendship book (Y) any locked NPCs will tell you where they are located and give a hint about how to unlock them.Once you have done their Friendship Quest you can give them any items you find that are on their list (each item lists who will take it on the tooltip).


There is an excellent table of all the gifts for all the NPCs, and the inter-relationships between them below. To learn correct answers to the conversations click on an NPC name in that table, then the question.

Crafted Gifts

There are magic gifts that can be made by crafting with two normal gift items. For instance, with the help of the blacksmith, you can craft a Pie Crumbs and Meat into a Meat Pie.
Gift recipes are listed under the General Goods tab of the blacksmith's Craft Items box.

Friendly Chat

After a certain amount of Friendship has been reached (every 5%?), the NPC will have something to discuss. (Talk) to them, then pick the blue statement. They will say something, then you will have a choice of several responses. Saying the right thing will bring you closer to them, the wrong thing will increase your Aversion.

Gift in Return

Every so many points of Friendship will get you a gift from the NPC in your mailbox. This could be vendor trash or some Lustres.

General Information

In order to become friends with a specific NPC, certain requirements must be met. It may be a quest, having a certain amount of gold, or having a certain level of closeness with another NPC. For example, you may have to finish a quest, have an achievement, or reach a certain level.

After that requirement has been unlocked, you can then gift items to the NPC. For each gift, the NPC will gain Friendship/Fondness Points with you. Gifting an NPC that has a good relationship with another NPC may raise your friendship level with them as well.

They will occasionally give you a dialogue with choices that you may select. Be warned, however, as if you chose the wrong option, the NPC may gain aversion points, while if you choose a good option, the NPC will gain fondness.

Conversely, gifting an NPC disliked by another NPC may earn you Aversion Points with that NPC.

In the case of some NPCs, giving gifts to them may also increase the Fondness of another NPC (ex. Giving Kevin a gift increases Hubert's fondness as well) or increase the Aversion of an NPC (ex. Giving Bailey a gift increases May's aversion).

  • When an NPC reaches 30.00 Fondness with you, they will give you an item. If this item is in your inventory, you will gain more Fondness when gifting that NPC1.
  • When an NPC reaches 60.00 Fondness with you, they will give you a Memory Regenerator. Right-clicking this will allow you to hear their voice.


Upon gifting a NPC, he/she may mail you items. All the information about available NPCs to befriend can be found in the Friendship menu (default Y button).

Reaching certain friendship levels with NPCs will unlock more dialog with them. Depending on your choice of answer, these quests will increase or decrease your friendship/aversion levels with them. Details on each of the options for every NPC dialog are listed on the corresponding NPC page.

Aversion Point

Aversion points may be gained in one of two ways:
  1. Gifting one NPC may increase aversion with another NPC (ex. Gifting Kevin or Hubert increases the Invisible Thief's aversion).
  2. Choosing an option that adds aversion during the NPC's Friendship dialogues (ex. In Chandler's "Do you like it here in Carderock Pass?" dialogue, selecting "I prefer civilization, thank you very much." will increase his aversion by 2.00).
When an NPC's aversion hits 100, both their aversion and fondness will reset to 0.


Gifts

Gifts for NPCs can be found in all dungeons. The drop rate is somewhat low, and as gifts bind on obtain, the game will ask the party to roll for it if that party option is enabled. Gifts also can be dropped at the end of an Abyss level dungeon from the Dimensional Rabbit. To gift NPCs, choose the (Give Gift) option while talking with them.

Return Gifts

Occasionally when gifting an NPC, you may receive mail from them. This mail will include a dialogue from the NPC and some items. Possible items that can be received include:

Every NPC has a faction that they belong in, and you gain points in these factions as you befriend them. The factions are:

Cassius Palace

Captain Steve

To befriend Steve, you must have at least 10 Fondness with May.
Giving gifts to Captain Steve also gives Fondness points to Lily and Aversion points to Deckard.

Irine

Giving gifts to Irine also gives Fondness points to Lily and Kevin.

Guardsman Joey

To befriend Guardsman Joey, you must finish the quest Love Gone Wrong.

King Cassius III

To befriend King Cassius III, you must finish the quest Royal Castle Saint's Haven.

Duke Stewart

To befriend Duke Stewart, you must finish the quest Business of the Humans.

Tara

To befriend Tara, you must have 10.00 Fondness with Stella.

Lady Kaylinn

To befriend Lady Kaylinn, you must finish the quest Medicine of the Astral Coven, Dream That Can't Be Wakened Out of 3.

Lena

To befriend Lena, you must finish the quest White Rose, White Rose's Identity.

General Duglas

To befriend General Duglas, you must finish the quest Meeting the Lady.

Tamer Lindsay

To befriend Tamer Lindsay, you must have 10.00 Fondness with Irine.

Free Adventurer's League

Archer Trainer Adeline

To befriend Adeline, you must finish the quest chain involving Yorick.
Giving gifts to Adeline also gives Fondness points to Irine.

Bailey

To befriend Bailey, you must have the Cloth Chaser title (obtained from looting a Loincloth).
Giving gifts to Bailey also gives Fondness points to Deckard and Aversion points to May.

Deckard

To befriend Deckard, you must finish the quest The Awakened Guardian.
Giving gifts to Deckard also gives Fondness points to Bailey.

Hubert

To befriend Hubert, you must have 10.00 Fondness with Kevin.
Giving gifts to Hubert also gives Fondness points to May and Kevin and Aversion points to Invisible Thief.

Kevin

Giving gifts to Kevin also gives Fondness points to Hubert and Aversion Points to the Invisible Thief.

Warrior Trainer Chandler

To befriend Warrior Trainer Chandler, you must finish the Level 22 Quest Landslide Krag 3.
Giving gifts to Chandler also gives Fondness points to Deckard.

Cleric Trainer Enoch

To befriend Cleric Trainer Enoch, you must finish the quest Apostle's Whereabouts.

Sorceress Trainer Stella

To befriend Sorceress Trainer Stella, you must finish the quest Flower Garden Guardian.

Archer Trainer Isillien

To befriend Archer Trainer Isillien, you must finish the quest Tears of Healing.

Gunther

To befriend Gunther, you must finish the quest Hobbserian the Destroyer.

Golden Goose Traders

May

To befriend May, you must have the Fat Wallet achievement (obtained by having 100g in your inventory).
Giving gifts to May also gives Fondness points to Adeline and Aversion points to Chandler.

Rupert

To befriend Rupert, you must talk to him when you are level 15 or higher.
Giving gifts to Rupert also gives Fondness points to Adeline.

Erwin

To befriend Erwin, you must have 10.00 Fondness with Honest Ed.

Belin

To befriend Belin, you must have the title Minus's Hand.

Popo

To befriend Popo, you must finish the quest Merchant Lessons 4.

Kelly

To befriend Kelly, you must finish the quest Soft Whisper of Farewell.

No Faction

Invisible Thief

To befriend Invisible Thief, you must finish the quest Invisible Body 3.

Priestess of Darkness Miliya

To befriend Priestess of Darkness Miliya, you must finish the quest On the Edge of Darkness.

Lily

To befriend Lily, you must finish the Level 13 Quest Master's Remains 4.
Giving gifts to Lily also gives Fondness points to Captain Steve.

Loffy the Beggar

To befriend Loffy the Beggar, you must be level 38.

Velskud

To befriend Velskud, you must finish the quest Apostle's Whereabouts.
